The "Cut"

Metal Detectorists who hunt the beaches, love it when the storms come in. High-energy waves rush up the shore and strip away hundreds of cubic yards of lighter sand within hours, leaving a distinct drop-off that can range from a few inches to several feet high.

Because heavy storms wash away light sand while leaving heavier objects behind, metal detectorists actively search these cuts and their exposed gravel or pebble beds to find accumulated coins, jewelry, and lost valuables.
